Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Multirate filter banks and wavelets have been one of the most active areas of research. Especially, the strong link between continuous-time wavelet bases and their discrete-time counterparts, the filter banks, has lead to a fruitful exchange of ideas between mathematicians and engineers. From the continuous-time perspective we now have a multi-resolution theory that gives insight into many physical phenomena, while discrete-time filter banks provide design techniques and efficient implementations of algorithms. Applications of multirate techniques are found in the areas of audio, image and video compression, subband adaptive filtering, room acoustics simulation, denoising, biomedical signal processing, and many more. The tutorial on multirate systems gives an overview of design techniques and applications for filter banks and wavelets, including emerging topics like low-delay and time-varying filter banks
