Abstract :
A large portion of traffic on multimedia networks is expected to be video traffic with a variable-bit-rate traffic characteristic. Video traffic prediction can play an important role in dynamic bandwidth allocation and traffic management in future high-speed packet-switched networks and ATM networks. A composite MPEG video traffic prediction scheme based on the normalised least mean square error (NLMS) algorithm is proposed in this paper. Unlike previous MPEG video traffic prediction schemes, which predict I, P and B frames separately, the proposed scheme predicts the composite MPEG video traffic levels. A experimental study has shown considerable prediction accuracy of this scheme
