Abstract :
This work investigates, through a case study, the use of energy performance indicators to assess energy use trends and to enhance energy performance of households in Mauritius. The objectives are to develop energy performance indicators (EPIs), assess the energy use trends and optimize energy performance by influencing the factors affecting EPIs in households. A set of four households in Mauritius were analysed and studied. Their energy performance trends were developed and assessed. The factors influencing EPIs were analysed. The effects of zero and low cost measures on EPIs were assessed. Results have shown that the method proposed to assess the energy performance in this study was successful in tracking and quantifying the effect of zero and low cost energy efficiency measures (EEM). Following application of the EEM, an average decrease of 21.2% was achieved in electricity consumption in the four dwellings studied. The same decrease can be reflected in the average Mauritian household electricity consumption.
