Abstract :
The commandable ingestible temperature monitor (CITM) is based on a 262.252-kHz miniature quartz crystal that has a 9-Hz/ degrees C temperature coefficient. The capsule is 10.7 mm in diameter and 22.6-mm long. A 1.2-V nickel-cadmium cell provides over 100 hours operation in continuous monitoring, and more with intermittent interrogation. Recharging allows extended pill testing as desired and reuse in animal studies. The CITM is specified for 0.1 degrees C accuracy and can be calibrated to better than 0.01 degrees C at any given battery voltage. It can be used for deep body core monitoring with a range of over 1 ft (pickup typically mounted in clothing or harness) for both human and animal studies. The command feature provides extended life and minimum local interference.<>
