Abstract
Clustering algorithms are frequently used for wireless sensor networks with the increasing network capacity now. In this paper, we proposed an energy efficient strong head clustering algorithm (EESH) to improve the performance for prolonging the network lifetime. In the algorithm, cluster head election depends on strong nodes not only with more energy, but also with large costs determined by neighbors. Nodes with more amounts of nodes nearby, with weaker energy and shorter distance neighbors may get more opportunities to become cluster heads. By means of head election, strong nodes can contribute more as cluster heads, while energy consumption of weak nodes can be decreased accordingly. The simulation results show that EESH can prolong the network lifetime, and reducing the network usage rate dropping at early stage.
