Abstract :
As denial of service (DoS) attack incidents appear frequently, DoS attack has become a serious threat to the network security. Plenty of application servers and network facilities may suffer from DoS attack. In this case, the DoS attack resistance ability of the servers and facilities draws more and more attention. DoS Attack Resistance Test is a kind of security test which evaluates the anti-DoS ability of the servers and network facilities by means of implementing actual DoS attacks against the testing object. It has the advantages of directness, trustiness, and effectiveness. DoS Attack Resistance Test needs to launch lots of different DoS attacks towards the object system. The realization and implementation of different kinds of DoS attack is a main problem to be studied in DoS Attack Resistance Test. The concepts of atomic attack and attack behavior are proposed in this paper to describe the composition and structure of the DoS attacks. Based on the concept of atomic attack, we analyze 80 DoS attack programs and scripts which are chosen extensively and elaborately. According to the analysis, the DoS atomic attacks are presented and classified. Furthermore, the statistic information of the DoS atomic attacks in the DoS programs and scripts we analyzed is given. In the end, two DoS attack examples are constructed using the DoS atomic attacks proposed in this paper. The examples can prove that the construction method based on atomic attack is effective and useful in the realization of attacks for the purpose of DoS Attack Resistance Test.
