Abstract :
The inline determination of blood gas pH, PO/sub 2/, and PCO/sub 2/ by either absorptiometric or fluorescence methods has been used for the calculation of gaseous transfers in membrane oxygenators. A prototype gas mixer using a mass flow controller has been developed that allows an accurate gaseous mixture to be obtained. The correct chemical composition is determined either by the perfusionist or automatically by the data obtained from the blood gas sensors.<>
