Abstract :
In this paper the definitions of different operations and different industries are first presented then, the process industry is compared with discrete industry as regards automation level, production process, history and other areas. Next, CIMS (computer integrated manufacturing systems) and CIPS (computer integrated process systems) are defined, and compared. The theories and technologies included in CIMS and CIPS are also summarized. Moreover, some related research groups and resources of CIMS and CIPS are listed. At the end of this paper same conclusions are drawn
