Abstract :
In view of the fact that the wavelet coefficients cannot be utilized completely with EZW method and that the encoding efficiency is reduced by too much encoding time consumed in the process of successive approximation quantization, an improved EZW image coding algorithm based on lifting wavelet transform is proposed. In this method lifting wavelet is used to improve the procedure of traditional wavelet transform. By modifying the scanning strategy of the wavelet coefficients and the quantization threshold the high and low frequency sub-bands are manipulated separately. The experiment results show that the improved method can improve the quality of the recovered image and the encoding efficiency.
