Abstract :
The maturity of the clinical engineering profession is discussed along with the need for effective action to control hazards as they become identified. The authors emphasize that it is necessary to be restrained in alarming situations and reasonable in recommendations for action. In addition, the authors see, as a long-term goal, the education of medical and paramedical personnel in the effective and safe use of technology by clinical engineers.<>
