Abstract :
A discussion is presented of new signal processing concepts and hardware, called glottal synchronous modal sampling, for the quantitative analysis of the electroglottogram and simultaneous parallel measurements of phonatory signals such as the output of a glottal accelerometer. The objective is to establish assessment procedures of broad clinical utility which can be executed easily by clinicians, an objective which is a major engineering step beyond the speech science laboratory. The main engineering features of a clinical instrument are highly automatic data acquisition, cogent real-time displays, and automatic output of a hard copy of the complete assessment.<>
