Abstract :
Recordings of the gastric activity (electrogastrogram) of rhesus monkeys cannot be analyzed reliably during periods of rapid motion. In the past, intervals of motionlessness were manually determined by visually scoring motion activity from videotapes recorded during the study. In an attempt to automate computer analysis of the electrogastrogram, the authors have developed a microwave motion sensor technique that detects the movements of the monkey. The mean and standard deviation of the motion signal are used to segment the total study time into windows of motion and windows of motionlessness to quantitative motion activity during each type of window.<>
