Abstract :
Wireless ATMs (WATM) will be used for supporting multimedia services in mobile networks. Accordingly, there has been a recent increase in research on the development of WATM location management to support terminal mobility. This paper proposes a new location management scheme for a PNNI (private network to network interface) based on mobile ATM network. The proposed scheme is a hybrid of a mobile PNNI and IS-41. A mobile tracking procedure updates the reachability information and the HLR (home location register)´s location information according to the movement area of the mobile terminal. The mobile location procedure uses the reachability information and HLR´s location information according to the location of the called and calling parties. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, the cost used for the mobile tracking and mobile location was computed. The analysis results show that the proposed scheme reduces the total cost of location management in mobile ATM networks based on the PNNI standard
