Abstract :
One of the recently adopted MPEG standards, MPEG-4, has many benefits, including the ability to decode arbitrarily shaped objects and the possibility to manipulate the objects in 3D space. Due to its complexity, MPEG-4 is a very challenging standard to implement while also meeting real-time performance requirements. This is especially true for HDTV applications due to higher data rates. This paper examines a subset of the performance levels (i.e. profiles and levels) of the MPEG-4 standard and shows how to meet them
