Abstract :
In order to aid planning and procurement of equipment needed within a newly reorganized health system, databases for products manufactured in Brazil have been developed. They incorporate information on local manufacturers, equipment produced, prices, technical specifications, and clinical applications, all referenced by a standard nomenclature and coding system derived from the IMDC (International Medical Device Code). Information about each component of the health system is also stored in databases. Through specially designed software, these databases are helping to speed up evaluation of equipment requested by each institution and reduce errors and processing time in procurement.<>
