Abstract
The article considers the electric energy flow and energy losses calculation problem on the basis of energy meter data using the scheme of the electrical network. The problem is referred to as the energy flow problem. A mathematical model of energy flow problem (EFP) is based on equations of energy balances in nodes and branches of the network, these equations are true with any state or topology network changes. The energy flow problem is proposed to be solved on the basis of state estimation approaches. General challenges and differences in solving the conventional state estimation problem and the energy flow problem are considered. These include the observability analysis, a bad data problem as well as the iterative calculation convergence.
