Abstract :
Three large water-filled ridged waveguides for heating deep-seated tumors have been developed. A complete hyperthermia device called HPRL-27 has been developed. This equipment is proposed for the treatment of pelvic tumors with a maximum available power of 1400 W. Five-year clinical experience is reported. No significant difference in local tumor control or in survival was found, but local pain was relieved and quality of life was improved for patients receiving hyperthermia in addition to radiation therapy.<>
