Abstract :
This paper is not intended to be a contribution to state the manifold and successful ongoing development and research activities in the framework of numerical field simulations in high voltage applications. It is shown how modern and novel techniques are applied to simulate physical phenomena out of the as classically regarded world of power engineering. Carefully selected examples of technical importance demonstrate the strength of the computation methods chosen. Nowadays, specialised software packages to tackle realistic problems are not exclusively used by highly skilled university researchers; there are various commercial software products on the market
