Abstract
The traditional MUSIC spatial spectrum is interpreted geometrically. Based on this, a novel augmented MUSIC method for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is proposed by augmenting the measurement matrix with a possible steering vector of an arbitrary array. The signal (or noise) subspace is calculated from the augmented matrix at every possible direction. Theoretical analysis discloses that the proposed estimator has better accuracy performance than MUSIC. Simulations also show that the former obviously outperforms the latter in case of low signal-to-noise ratio and small sample.
