Abstract :
Newly licensed S-Band WiMAX networks are likely to experience a high degree of RF coupling with nearby radar systems that operate in adjacent frequencies bands. This interference can lead to significantly degraded WiMAX performance if it is not mitigated to an acceptable level. In this paper we describe the interference mechanisms that exist between WiMAX networks at 3.3 to 3.8 GHz and nearby ground-based radars that occupy adjacent frequency bands. Our analysis includes a qualitative evaluation of a wide range of interference mitigation techniques with practical implementation issues for both systems.
