Abstract
We introduce a generic framework for the compilation, transmission and integration of update data for in-vehicle navigation systems using file-system-based navigation databases. The framework consists of three components: update compiler, communication center and update integrator. The update data is compiled by comparing two releases of the navigation database. Binary differences ensure a minimization of update data size. The navigation data is represented in a hierarchical data model consisting of versioned items (targeted by update transactions) and referenced items (targeted by update operations). Dependencies between versioned items are solved by conditions. Initially, directories and files are treated as versioned items. However, a customization is possible with configuration files, e.g., for combining several files inside one versioned item. The model is extensible, e.g., for achieving versioning on sub-file-level.
