Abstract
This report is concerned with enhancing PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) load balancing in order to increase PVM real time performance in an industrial environment. Based on the experience of the reference company, PVM round robin load balancing is not the correct approach in an heterogeneous industrial environment where different machines have dissimilar performance. As a result, the Applied Research and Technology Lab has developed a new load balancing sub system which is able to manage PVM spawn taking into account both current CPU load and CPU performance altogether. Tests on the new load balance subsystem exposed an increase of PVM performances in an heavy heterogeneous (in terms of workload/performances) environment.
