Abstract :
This paper proposes a new method for acquisition of light ray data. Light ray data is proposed as an intermediate format of 3-D data independent on 3-D input/output method and represented as a group of orthogonal projection images of the scene/object. When conventional camera is used for the acquisition of light ray data, obtained image is perspective projection of the scene/object, and the conversion into orthogonal projection is required. The proposed method dispenses with the conversion by using a telecentric lens, which provides orthogonal projection images. We made an experiment in obtaining orthogonal projection images by using a telecentric lens and synthesizing arbitrary views, and confirmed the usefulness of the proposed method
