            Abstract : 
A computational, electrothermal model for a complete metal-oxide surge arrester based on the implicit form of the finite-differences method has been presented. The model has been used to calculate the cooling curve and the axial temperature profiles following the application of overvoltages. The computed results have been checked against measurements
