Abstract
White light emitting diodes (LEDs) with microstructure array on top surface of the phosphor silicone layer are demonstrated to have enhanced the light extraction efficiency (LEE) compared with white LEDs with flat phosphor layer. The effects of microstructure array on the LEE of LEDs are investigated by ray tracing simulations and experiments. Simulation results reveal that spherical cap microstructure array can increase the LEE by 12%. Experimental results also show that spherical cap microstructure array fabricated by a molding method can increase the luminous efficiency by 10.1%.
