Abstract :
A combination of software algorithms that detects a signal and specifies its nature is described. The closeness of the signal to a sinusoidal, triangular or square type of waveform is also specified. The system works on the principle of successive software integrations and differentiations of a digitized signal, extracting the commonalities between the standard, known shapes and the signal under consideration. The expert-system software then determines the nature of the signal. The system can be implemented with an inexpensive, general-purpose microprocessor, and with analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters.<>
