Abstract
Summary form only given. A pulsed wire discharge is a practical method of nanosize powder synthesis. It has been found that ambient-gas pressure is a very important factor in determining average powder size. Dynamic variation of the gas pressure is expected to have a special effect on the powder formation process. In our experiment, dynamic pressure is provided by a high-speed gas-puff. The experimental results have shown that a high-pressure gas is very important in the process of wire explosion in order to avoid electrical breakdown, while a low-pressure background is effective for fine powder synthesis. Therefore, it is understood that the time-varying gas pressure given by the gas puff played an important role in the process of nanosize power synthesis by pulsed wire discharge.
