Abstract :
To increase the transmission capacity in WDM systems, wider transmissible optical bandwidth and higher channel bit-rate are required. When the bandwidth and channel bit-rate increase, the interaction between nonlinearity and chromatic dispersion of the transmission fiber causes severe performance degradations after long-distance transmission. To reduce such degradations, it is effective to increase the effective cross-sectional area of the transmission fiber, i.e., a large core fiber (LCF) and/or to decrease the dispersion slope of the transmission fiber, i.e., a WDM fiber with low dispersion slope. In this paper, we report 340 Gbit/s WDM transmission over 6,054 km using hybrid combination spans of LCF and low dispersion slope WDM fibers (LDS-WDMF).
