Abstract :
The safety of ultrasound energy at the high-frequency, low-power levels used in diagnostic imaging has been studied extensively, and although conclusive evidence of its complete safety has not been established, there is no evidence of tissue harm. A number of attempts have been made to establish the cost-effectiveness of ultrasound diagnostic procedures, but the cost-to-benefit ratio has been difficult to establish. The present state of knowledge in these two areas is briefly described
