Abstract :
The history of biomechanical study of humans, from prehistoric times to the present, is highlighted. Current directions in biomechanical research are described. Studies of ligaments, intervertebral discs, vertebral bodies, osteoporosis, facetectomy and fixation in the cervical spine, ligamentous columns, spinal injuries with vertical impact, and facial fracture are covered, and mathematical models are discussed
