Abstract :
This plenary-talk paper summarizes recent advances in the research of metamaterials, by presenting several representative results developed of UCLA antenna lab. With the aid of a powerful computational engine using finite different time domain (FDTD) technique, various composite materials are designed, analyzed, and developed to have different material responses. Despite the broad terminologies referred in recent publications, these novel materials are defined as metamaterials for their unique features that do not exist in the nature. The metamaterials are applied to a broad range of applications, including optics, antennas, artificial surfaces, etc; with their usefulness validated by both simulation and experimental results
