Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a new method utilizing the local birefringence induced by ultrasonic wave to detect the local optical information in the scattering medium. The usual photo-elasticity technique using crossed polarizers is applied to detect the local birefringence. The transmitted light intensity modulated by the ultrasonic wave is measured as a function of concentration of the scattering medium. To obtain the distribution of light intensity in the scattering medium, the acousto-optic signal is measured with changing distance between the ultrasonic beam and the absorber.
