Abstract
An expert system has been developed to facilitate biological 31-phosphorus nuclear magnetic resonance (31-PNMR) spectral analysis and interpretation. The expert system represents knowledge as production rules that reason about signal extraction, noise treatment, resonance assignment, intracellular pH determination, and metabolite intensity quantitation. The results from analysis of NMR spectra obtained from cardiovascular studies demonstrated that this artificial intelligence technique combined with statistical and numerical methods provides a framework for an efficient and reliable system for the analysis of complex, noisy biological 31-PNMR spectra.<>
