Abstract :
Future metropolitan and access networks are expected to comprise both heterogeneous optical and broadband wireless technologies. In this paper, we envision and then investigate the architecture of one of these scenarios by assuming the WMN technology as a wireless access network and the PON technology to serve in the backhaul. In such a system, many of QoS issues need to be highlighted. A cell planning method is proposed based on practical industrial in-field measurements along with a customized routing algorithm that is especially-tailored for the system and basically relies on hop counts for WMN. The simulation results verify that our proposed architecture can guarantee the required level for QoS assurance by supporting high data rate and low packet error rate to wireless AP for various types of traffic.
