Abstract :
A large-scale ring shaped flywheel generator which is magnetically levitated is proposed. It is applicable to a power storage system in place of the pumped storage in a hydroelectric power station. Using an experimental model, stable levitation has been realized. The magnetic pole is designed to decrease iron losses on rotation. It has been confirmed that the system can provide free rotation for up to 6000 sec.<>
