Abstract :
As the important part of interchange, weaving area is the accident-prone and bottleneck of urban expressway because of a lot of weaving operations, where the traffic flow is needed to be intervened in order to improve the safety and efficiency. This paper divides traffic intervention measures into three kinds: driver behavior intervention, road condition intervention and traffic flow intervention, and studies the relationship between traffic flow intervention and traffic safety, efficiency under different demand. Conflict rate, traffic flow rate, delay per vehicle of weaving section and ramp are selected as the indices to analyze traffic safety and efficiency under three common intervention measures respectively, i.e. yield sign, speed limit and ramp metering. Finally, taking an example for Youyi Avenue interchange of Wuhan Yangtze River Tunnel, it analyzes how the traffic safety and efficiency changes under the condition of certain design property and different interventions in weaving area, and confirms the intervention measure in different traffic demand.
