Abstract :
Blur is a common image distortion; an evident aspect of blurring is smoothness of edge and increase of edge amplitude. To evaluate this blur effective, a method for gray image definition based on edge kurtosis is proposed in this paper. The first step of the method is to get one-order differential coefficient of edge spread adjacent domain, then compute kurtosis as measurement of image definition after averaging. The kurtosis definition is introduced to spatial domain, which avoid complexity from changing to frequency domain. To validate the proposed method quite a few experiments have been done, considering different types of noise, motion blur and image content. Experimental results show that this method is independent on image content, is consistent with image definition, and is not sensitive to noise.
