Abstract :
The performance evaluation of ATM networks has received considerable attention from the networking research community. Most of the studies have been done using conventional methods such as discrete event simulation software. This paper presents an application of real-time and embedded system techniques to create distributed proportional rate simulations of ATM networks which execute substantially faster than equivalent discrete event simulations. In this work, real-time modifications to the Linux operating system were used to control distributed ATM network simulations. The simulation results from this system are compared with simulation results for a specific set of experiments under alternative modeling methodologies and the speedup achieved in using the proportional time emulation and simulation (ProTEuS) platform is discussed
