Abstract :
Clustered VOD (video-on-demand) servers, consisting of interconnected nodes and disks, have been proposed for large scale servers, that are capable of supporting multiple concurrent streams which access the video objects stored in the servers. One of the most important purposes of the clustered VOD servers is to maximize the number of concurrent requests supported in the servers. For this purpose, it is necessary to use a placement policy that can place video objects on the storage media efficiently. So, we suggested a new placement policy, WDG (Weighted Disk Groups) for a higher number of concurrent accesses. In particular our policy is designed to fully utilize the I/O bandwidth and of higher performance disks and characteristics of video objects. Lastly, we simulate a new policy and conventional policies through various environments and evaluate the performance of our policy
