Abstract :
Summary form only given. Design studies and a discussion of a possible experiment are reported. These studies are based on the use of an electron gun and a water-cooled solenoid available at IREAP, University of Maryland. Results of e-gun simulations for an existing triode-type magnetron injection gun show that at 65 kV beam voltage and 25 kV mod-anode voltage an electron beam with the orbital-to-axial velocity ratio of 1.3 with an RMS spread in orbital velocities less than 1% can be produced. The design of a a three-cavity gyroklystron, in which the input and output cavities operate at the fundamental cyclotron resonance (harmonic number s=1), while the intermediate buncher cavity operates either at the fundamental or at the second harmonic is done with the use of a self-consistent code, MAGY. The operating mode in the first and last cavities is the TE/sub 01/-mode; the buncher cavity operates either at the TE/sub 01/-mode (when s=1) or at the TE/sub 02/-mode (when s=2). Results of calculations will be used for preparation of corresponding experiments.
