Abstract
We evaluate the performance of three popular versions of the UNIX operating system on the Intel x86 multiprocessor (MP) architecture: Linux, UnixWare, Solaris. TclBench (Lai and Baker, 1996) is used to evaluate the performance of the operating systems on the Intel x86 MP system. The performance of primitive thread functions of each operating system is also measured to figure out the characteristics of each operating system on the MP environment
