Abstract
Group-of-pictures (GoP) is a random access unit for VCR functions in the MPEG standard. Since storing and transmitting a video stream based on GoPs is efficient, it is practical to support fast scan functions based on GoPs. In this paper we present a dynamic scheduling scheme to support fast scan functions of a stored video. The proposed scheme constructs a set which consists of GoPs selected by a given speedup factor at a frame position, where a user requests fast scan functions, applies a bandwidth smoothing to the set, and then writes a transmission schedule. The proposed scheme results in speeding up the playback rate by utilizing “GoP-skipping” and reduces the computational complexity by applying a bandwidth smoothing based on GoPs
