Using FIFOs to Realize the High Rates Data Communication between USB and DSP

Abstract :
In most high-speed data communication system, the required transfer rates would tie up I/O bandwidth of the digital signal processor (DSP) when it is connected directly to universal serial bus (USB) controller. A FIFO is an appropriate solution for this problem because it can buffer a large block of data, and the DSP can read data from the FIFO in a burst mode. In this paper, using two SN74V235 FIFOs as an interface realized the high rates data transmission between TMS320C- 6203B and CY7C68013. TMS320C6203B, sExternal Memory Interface (EMIF) and CY7C68013, sGeneral programmable interface (GPIF) are introduced, their hardware connections figure to SN74V235 are given also. The theory of TMS320C6203B reading and writing data to SN74V235, how to create GPIF waveform descriptors are thoroughly researched. The system can realize data communication between USB and DSP, and top speed can be bigger than 96 Mbps. The system is of great practical sense to resolve the issues of high-speed communication among increasing districts without fiber trunk network.
