Abstract
We consider the IEEE 802.11 RTS/CTS Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol and its Sensor Networks variant, namely SMAC. We derive analytical results for the expected latency of a data packet to traverse a single N-hops route under specific conditions. We then validate the obtained results through probabilistic model checking verification of discrete time Markovian models of the considered topology.
