Abstract :
Since the commitment in 1998 the double circuit transmission lines Tablazo-Cuatricentenario 400 kV, crossing the Maracaibo Lake, it has been exposed to the adverse influences of a lacustrine-marine atmosphere, increased by industrial activity and the presence of birds, which causes an incipient and quick deterioration of all the components of the lines. In view of these circumstances the project "Adapting and improving the 400 kV Transmission Line in its Course Across the Maracaibo Lake" began, following the methodology of project management processes (PMP) of CVG EDELCA; in order to give an integral solution to the problem of the lines for the next 20 years. Phase 2 of "alternatives analysis" concludes in that the best technical option is the installation of submarine cables, and the second option is to carry out maintenance and improvements of the lines, including covering of the metallic structure
