Abstract :
We consider the light collection in scintillators as a process of light propagation in the dynamic system with elastic (mirror) reflections. It has been shown that the light yield is strongly dependent upon the type of regular and/or chaotic dynamics of light rays. The chaotic light yield is described by a new formula generalizing the "formula of photometry sphere". Using theoretical expressions, some geometric-optical factors affecting the light collection were analyzed. Increase in the light output (by tens of per cent) is possible in systems with asymmetric (non-Lambert) indicatrix or in systems with essential light scattering, e.g., in the presence of internal scatters.
