Abstract :
This paper describes the principle and analysis of a starting method for a new type of single-phase PM motor without position sensors consisting of a stator core similar to that of a shading pole motor and a two-pole permanent magnet rotor. Since this motor is partially saturated by 20 percent of the rated current, it is possible to estimate the rotor pole-position without noise and vibration when discriminating magnetic polarity using magnetic saturation. From theoretical and experimental results, we discuss in detail the principle and characteristics of the starting method of the proposed motor
