Abstract
This paper deals with frequency estimation for BPSK burst-mode transmissions in AWGN channel. Two semi-data- aided (SDA) frequency estimation schemes are proposed. The first scheme provides a maximum-likelihood (ML) estimate when the carrier phase is known. The second scheme is an iterative process to cope with the case that an unknown phase exists. According to the algorithms, known pilot symbols and unknown data symbols are used together in order that both estimation accuracy and spectral efficiency can be satisfied. The simulations show that the SDA estimators, which only use fewer pilot symbols, can provide a very good performance close to the CRLB with a large number of pilot symbols at moderately high signal-to-noise ratios.
