Abstract :
The method of characteristics of partial differential equations (PDEs) theory has been previously applied to the analysis of transients on transmission lines with corona. It is proposed here that this method be applied also to the analysis of nonuniform lines. The advantages of doing this are illustrated by analyzing the nonuniformities caused by the sagging of conductors on an aerial line. Results from a similar field experiment are included for comparison purposes
