  • Abstract
This paper analyzes the evolution of trends for future networks as IP (Internet Protocol) will be the dominant technology. It also analyzes new types of failure modes which will adversely affect the reliability of future IP-based networks, and it concludes that, for IP-based networks, the fault management capabilities such as fault detection, containment and recovery, will be some of the most important problems that should be addressed. The paper evaluates fault management detailed requirements for IP-based networks and the current gaps. Finally, the paper concludes by presenting some examples of Huawei´s solutions to address these problems.
